The seventh Sunridge Village Family road race will be held on Saturday 11th May 2013 at 07:00. Organised by the Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletic Club and Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, this event promises to be the greatest to date. The 2012 event drew more than 2000 competitors, notwithstanding the weather on the day, and has grown at a fantastic rate year on year. This will once again be a fun filled family affair with fantastic hampers, lucky draws and some major prizes. These include a R2 500 shopping experience from Sunridge SuperSpar, a major sponsor to the event.
“Although an official EPA Road Running event, the Run/Walk caters for the whole family with distances of both 5km and 10km.” says Suzanne Fincham, Centre Manager at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre. “The school with the most bulk entries in the 5km race will win R1 000, so we encourage all schools to participate and support the event.”
Other fun category prizes include first Family Home, Parent and Pram, Dad and Dog and Mom and Tot. This year however, there is a restriction of 1 dog per entry. Entrants wanting to qualify for these special prizes must indicate this at registration.
Results will be available for both the 10km and 5km events. These will be posted on the windows in front of Sunridge Build It and on our website www.sunridgevillage.co.za shortly after the prize giving.
The first 1 000 pre-entries that enter at one of the following shops at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre will receive an event T-shirt: Spec Savers, PostNet and Myburg’s Sports. Other venues where pre-entries can be made are at all major sport shops in Port Elizabeth as well as Despatch Spar and Myburg’s Sports in Uitenhage.
Our aim this year is a record breaking 2500 competitors. “It can be done, and it will make this one of the biggest 10km events in the Metro”, said Shane Brown chairman of the organizing committee.
Festivities kick off on Friday 10th May at 16:30 with pre-registration in the mall (same place as last year) at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre situated on Kragga Kamma Road in Sunridge Park. Take-Aways, restaurants and selected stores are open for a bite, something to drink or buy till late.
Various stores at the Centre will be manning the water points, with a watering hole for pets at the first water point. Prize giving will take place directly after the race in the area adjacent to the Keg & Swan . Prize money for various age categories is up for grabs, as well as a gold, silver or bronze medal for all participants. Lucky draw prizes are attendance prizes, so stay after the run for the prize giving.
Entry forms are available at all shops at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, Despatch Spar, as well as sports shops in Nelson Mandela Metro. Entry forms can also be downloaded from our website www.sunridgevillage.co.za, but remember pre-enter at Sunridge Village to qualify for a T/shirt.
Additional parking is available in the park at Camelia Avenue off Aster Avenue close to the Centre.
